WHY DID CHRIST HAVE TO DIE?

Many years ago, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. But it was a couple years later that a young man asked the question that was recently put forth in our Sunday school lesson, "why did Christ have to die?" During the time of my salvation and thereafter, that question had not been before me.

As we started to look into this question, that is looking to God's Word. We found out many things. We discovered that mankind is separated from God because of Sin. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the Glory of God:" We all have to come to this point to be saved, the fact that we are all sinners, kings, queens, criminals, or paupers. It doesn't matter who we are.

Sometimes when I travel, and go to an out of town church, I'll ask the question, "Where is the sinners pew," this, partly as a joke and partially as a test. I usually get an answer such as, "any were in the Church."

But we also found that there was a difference between "sin" and "sins". Sin is really the sin nature that has been passed on to us from our ancestor, Adam. Sins are those that we have done in our life because of our sin nature. The only man or person without sin is Christ. I John 3:5 "And ye know that He was manifested to take away our sins; and in Him is no sin. "

So, we found that since we were separated from God because of sin, we needed a Savior. That Savior had to be without sin. I knew from the many names of God, Such as, The I AM, that God is everlasting, and has no end. The I AM meaning I always was, and always will be. So then it would be safe to say, and I say this very reverently that God as God could not die. So God in Christ became Man so that He could die for sinful man. "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh. Justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."

How profound to be able, by the Spirit, to get a hold on such a truth. I hope this is useful to others.
