God's guidance
"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
Be ye not as the horse or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with
bit and bridle, lest they cone near unto thee." Psalms 32:8,9
What wonderful verses for the one that knows Christ as their personal Savior. To realize,
that we can have a personal relationship and walk with God Himself.
The first thing that a newborn baby needs in their growth as a person is "instruction." It
is likewise with a newborn Christian. Sometimes this instruction will take the form of what is needed
for the horse or mule. We would call this, Providential Circumstances. This would be God's way
or rather control, so that we don't go on the wrong trail. How thankful we should be for His
hand on us, in this way, even though, at the time we may not think so. But, also as a Young
Christian, one had the privilege of an older Christian taking him under their wing. What wonderful
remembrances or being in that mans home and being over God's wonderful Word. One soon found
Themselves studing the Word just to be able to speak and discuss intelligently.
The line between "instruction," and "teaching in the way: is very hard to distinguish. But, one
can know that those times over the word with that older Christian, were, in fact,"teaching in the
way." How important those times are for a Developing Christian. How wonderful the fellowship.
But with experience, comes another principle. How often we are like the horse, or the mule,
every one of us-and this, because our souls have not been ploughed up. With the plowing up,
comes the experience. With experience, comes exercise of soul. With exercise of soul, comes
growth as a Christian.
There is a guidence with knowledge, and guidence without knowledge. The first is a wonderful
and blessed privilege. The latter is often needed to humble. One hates to admit the need of this
occasional humbling. But a balanced growth will not happen without this. However there is a great
diversity of character amongst men,(thank the Lord for that). Some may not be ableto take the
intensity of an experience that any may go through. But God knows exactly what is neede in our
growth. We may not like this at the time it is happening, however later one can look back and
see the loving hand of God.
Then we come to guidence of the Spirit, or by His eye. A great range of guidence can be found
in Colossians 1:9-11. "For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray
for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and
spiritual understanding. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful
in every good work, and increasing in the Knowledge of God; Strengthen with all might,
according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;" One would
pray that all young Chrisian would attain this.
One important thing in being in his will, or being guided by His eye is to be in close
communion with Him. To do this, one must keep short accounts with God. A day may not go by that
we, in some way, sin, so we must own it all up to Him. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and just to forgive us of our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrightousness." I John 1:9.
To be able to be guided by His eye, we have to be close enough to see his eye.
